The annual folk music festival Umefolk takes place in the end of February in Umeå, northern Sweden. Welcome to next Umefolk, on the 25th and 26nd of February 2011!

The biggest folk music festival in Sweden this winter takes place in Umeå on the 26th and 27th of February.
With around 70 acts in two days Umefolk 2010 brings You more international acts than we have in many years.
Acts from Scotland, The Czech republic, Estonia, Slovenia, Austria, Italy, Zimbabwe, Bosnia, Belgium, Finland, England,
Ireland and France will make sure this festival will bring light even in the darkest Swedish winter.
Of course You will be able to enjoy Swedish folk music and dance too, both contemporary as well as traditional.

Here are some of the acts:
Hanka Paldum - is a popular folk and sevdah singer (Sevdalinka is a traditional genre of folk music in former Yugoslavia).
She is regarded as one of the best female sevdah performers of all time, and she has diva status in her home country.
Her music is compared to blues, fado and flamenco. In Umeå she performs together with Swedish musicians in the band Orientexpressen.

Ethno in Transit - is a new and exciting international music project. One of the original ideas was to market "world music" as a learning tool for young people. The members är spread all over the world. One of them, Matija Solce, represents half of the duo Folkoholics that were a huge success at Umefolk 09.

African Destiny - is a group made up of seven music students at the Midlands State University, Gweru, Zimbabwe. The band was formed in January 2007. They call their music Afro fusion, pop music based on traditional rythms and songs. Prepare to dance!

Nordic - An experimental trio from Sweden that blends traditional folk music with a contempory freedom. At Umefolk10 Nordic will be performing together with some of the most established folk dancers in Sweden, STHLM Moves.
